Haghpat
The famous Haghpat monastic complex, which was founded in the times of Armenian king Abbas Bagratuni is situated in Alaverdi region, 3 km away from Sanahin. The main cathedral of Holy Cross was built by queen Khosrovanush and her sons in 976-991. Beginning from 11th century the other buildings of the monastic complex were constructed, such as the churches of St. Gregory and St. Godmother, the bigger chapel (1257), the gallery, the library, the bell-tower and the refectory. -
