The city of Meghri is famous both for its old hotels and vodka as well as with splendid fruits and vegetables. The fig and the yellow pomegranate of Meghri are among the outstanding ones. The ruins of 10th century fortress are located on the rocky eminence above the city. The fortress, reconstructed by Davit-Bek (hero of the liberation movement of the 18th century), was the only one in Armenia the towers of which were also meant for artillery. In Meghri you can also find the churches of St.Astvatsatsin (St.Godmother) (17th c.), St.Sargis (17th c.) and St.Hovhannes (15-17th c).
